How to Use
ている is used to show an action in progress or a current state.
🔹 Basic Meanings
- “be doing …” (action happening now)
- “have done … / is in a state of …” (result or state)
🔹 When to use ている
- To describe an action happening now
- To describe a habit or repeated action
- To describe a state or condition (especially with change verbs)
- Very common in daily conversation (N5)
🔹 Simple Examples
今、勉強しています。
→ I am studying now.
雨が降っています。
→ It is raining.
日本に住んでいます。
→ I live in Japan.
ドアが開いています。
→ The door is open.
🔹 Important Note (N5)
With some verbs, ている shows a state, not an action in progress.
(Example: 開く → 開いている = “is open”)
